Why subscribe to True Lies?

I was interviewing a lawyer once. They were talking about a colleague’s highly visible, controversial work, work that I was interested in learning about for a story I was trying to do about criminal justice reform. The problem was, they were talking in circles, BS’ing me, hiding their true opinion. In short, the interview sucked. So I paused the discussion, and offered to let them speak to me anonymously, without fear of anything they said getting back to so-and-so or creating any attributable tension or ugliness of any kind. And, of course, that was when the interview took off.

We’re all so connected now it’s impossible to fly under the radar anymore, so to speak. But under the radar is where many interesting things live. True Lies is about the atmosphere that’s created when you think no one is listening. The space where honesty overtakes fact. I hope it’s interesting to you, too.
